Washington State University
Washington State University Carson College of Business’ online MBA is a relative newcomer to the online MBA scene, being founded 2007-2008. Though the larger University has close to 20 years of experience in the online space, and 50 years in teaching MBA courses. Washington State University’s online MBA is relatively selective, with an average entrant GMAT score of 567 and an acceptance rate of 51% (ranking them #9 and #5 in our ranking, respectivally). Three concentrations, granted through a wider variety of electives, are available at Washington State’s online MBA: marketing, international business, and finance.
The distance online MBA is a part-time MBA format, and one that is largely undertaken by students who wish to remain in their current role while they study. Employer-funded candidates will make up a certain proportion of each class. However, the majority of students will be self-funded candidates who have taken the initiative to pursue an MBA, but who cannot afford to forego their salary or to relocate – or simply do not wish to.
Yet, this is where the real appeal of an MBA online becomes apparent. While traditionally, a part-time MBA candidate would be limited to schools in their local area, they can now choose to study at any one of a solid selection of highly-respected international business schools, enjoying the benefits of the school’s network, access to world-class faculty and – of course – the ability to put a prestigious, globally-recognized school on their résumé.
To advance knowledge through creative research and scholarship across a wide range of academic disciplines.
To extend knowledge through innovative educational programs in which emerging scholars are mentored to realize their highest potential and assume roles of leadership, responsibility, and service to society.
To apply knowledge through local and global engagement that will improve quality of life and enhance the economy of the state, nation, and world.
The Morrill Acts of 1862 and 1890 answered demand for practical education that was accessible to agricultural and industrial workers. The legislation granted federally controlled land to the states, which states could then sell to fund establishment of “land-grant” colleges. Curricula at land grant institutions served a broad swath of the population by focusing on agriculture and technical subjects.
Ensuing legislation established an agricultural experiment station with each land-grant institution. Cooperative extension services were created to circulate information about the stations’ research findings.
Washington State College was established in 1890 as a land-grant institution. It has become a distinguished public research university, but its mission remains rooted in accessibility and public service.
