Top MBA programs usually offer many funding
opportunities for strong applicants. Researching financial aid options as you
are deciding which schools to consider can help you see the bigger picture.
Some institutions provide merit-based financial aid to more than half of their
MBA students.
Starting the application process early can
put you in the race for the best scholarship. Many schools and funding programs
do not wait until all candidates have submitted their applications before
awarding. They often have limited budgets and are more flexible during the
early weeks and months of the application period. Also, early applicants
demonstrate eagerness and commitment.
Your application serves as the first step in
the screening process for a merit-based scholarship. Most schools will
automatically consider you if you have impressive qualities. Best candidates
may get scholarship offer upon admission. Ask about separate aid or scholarship
applications.
Timely preparation can also make you eligible
for the best private and independent scholarships. These are not provided by
graduate schools. They are often funded by corporations, organizations or
individual sponsors.
Making Your Scholarship Application Unique
A high GMAT or GRE score can set you above
the competition. So can a stellar undergraduate GPA.
However, don't count yourself out of the race
if you're not top of the class. Since students often wait a few years after
completing their undergraduate education to attend graduate school, they have
opportunities for professional development. Obtaining certifications and
earning additional credentials during this time can improve your candidacy for
the scholarship.
Many scholarship applications also require
you to complete an essay or project. This is your chance to shine.
Three of the following three categories are generally
evaluated to assess the eligibility of a candidate:
Academic background
Personal qualities
Professional experience
Whatever achievement you have achieved will
improve your position in these areas. Volunteer work, leadership roles and the
jobs you hold can showcase your strengths and improve your chances of earning a
scholarship. Highlight them in your applications whenever possible. You need to
show that you are a dedicated student, but that you can apply the knowledge you
gain to real-world situations.
Employers value communication skills more
than anything else. Writing and presentation abilities are important for Master
of Business Administration candidates.
Graduate school applicants are usually pitted
against others with similar technical skills. Showing that you are flexible,
adaptable and a player on the team can set you apart from the rest. Many
scholarship applications let you showcase your talent in these fields.
You will need a letter of recommendation and
a resume in your application. Choose a variety of referrers who can talk about
your academic, personal and professional qualities.
